 Experience

Scholarly Communications and Medical Librarianship

Lead the Health Sciences Library in scholarly communications endeavors.

In collaboration with the Faculty Life Office and the College of Medicine Research Office conducted a survey on the research and publishing needs of the faculty.

The output from the survey was a contact list to connect faculty members with the right support services at the time of need.

Assessed faculty for interest in scholarly communications topics, delivery preferences and preferred communication channel.

The assessment lead to the creation of From Idea to Submission: A Getting Published Workshop and one-one-one EndNote training sessions that are offered year round at the time of need.

Based on the From Idea to Submission workshop created the self-learning module Finding and Evaluating a Journal available online to provide the information at the time of need. The interactive module includes a worksheet, is ADA compliant, and uses a two question assessment for evaluation.

Assist faculty pursuing scholarly publishing with citation, reference and copyright information.

Conduct one-on-one EndNote sessions with faculty to increase the use of the reference management software provided by the library.

Support the publishing goals of authors by providing pre-peer review editing of manuscripts.

Presented Five Minute Topic Talks at department meetings on a bi-monthly basis. Topics covered include: open access, scholarly metrics, medical image and copyright, who is an author, ORCid, and other scholarly topics.

Created the 10 Day Scholarly Impact Challenge to assist faculty with identifying appropriate metrics for use in evaluation, promotion and tenure, grant, and award applications.

In collaboration with the Faculty Life Office presented Scholarship 101 to the the Clinical Skills team.

Created journal lists for case reports and medical education, displayed list on LibGuides and promoted at departmental meetings.

Channel administrator for Flagship, a channel in the open access, peer reviewed journal Cureus.

Co-facilitator for the Wiki Medicine Module, an elective for fourth year medical students.

Participated in the personal librarian program, a program that assigns each librarian 50 first and second year students to be their personal contact for their library needs. Personal librarians provide feedback on student research proposals and CQRA assignments.

Support curriculum needs for two courses through the module liaison program.

Developed and presented a mini-workshop, I Have No Idea What to Write, to help faculty with ideas for non-traditional scholarship.

The information from the workshop was published in the MedEd Minute newsletter, a graduate medical education resource for faculty members.

For the Health Sciences Library Info Expo, developed and presented to staff, Trust It or Trash It, a tool to evaluate health information on the internet and for the Lunch and Learn series presented, Bring Your Own Story, Awesome Audio Books and Where to Find Them, and Hashtags to TikTok: Tips for Social Media Users.

Reference and Research Experience

Assisted patrons with research and reference needs in person at the Research & Information Desk and virtually via the Ask A Librarian Service.

Assisted patrons with catalog and database searching using the library website.

Recorded statistical data in LibAnalytics.

Co-created LibGuides for Copyright and Intellectual Property.

Created instructional video for InterLibrary Loan using screen capturing software.

Worked as a part of team to capture data used for the “Value of Libraries Assessment” project.

Instruction Experience

Produced the instructional videos “How to Cite While You Write Using EndNote and Word” and “Moving or Sharing an EndNote Library”

Produced the instructional video “How to Search PubMed” for undergraduate students in Biomedical Science department.

Developed Simple Data Visuals: Using Tools You Already Have The workshop included a live demonstration, hands-on practice, and real time assessment of learning objectives. The workshop was taught at a library lunch and learn and the UCF Summer Faculty Research Conference.

The face to face workshop was transformed into a webinar for the University of Washington Health Sciences Library (invited).

Taught Biomedical Science library orientation to honors in the major students.

For all Biomedical Science students provided an introduction to the library on a LibGuide accessible any time, on any device, from anywhere.

Co-facilitator for the Wiki Medicine Module, an elective for fourth year medical students.

Developed and presented “Colleges and Careers” workshop for an Orange County youth leadership program.

Co-taught the Library Informational session for summer orientation.

Assisted in classroom instruction for international students from Mexico and Pakistan for the Department of Education.

Taught subject specific research skills for undergraduate students in Ecology.

Taught library skills and information literacy concepts to students in ENC1102.

Served as Library Instruction Coordinator.

Assign Library Instruction classes to librarians in RIS and ILO departments according to their percentage of assigned duties and subject areas.

Collect, maintain and report on Library Instruction statistics.

Scheduled classrooms for library instruction and updated calendar.

 Graphic Design and Marketing

Promoted university research and intellectual property at conferences, and through web, print and social media.

Reviewed scientific and patent information to support editing of technology promotional material.

Represented department on the UCF Marketing Taskforce and Social Media Managers Group.

Created taxonomy and definitions for categorizing University patented technologies.

As a graphic designer, managed, coordinated and implemented communication and marketing strategies.

Manged social media accounts.

Collaborated with a communications team to produce print and online materials using InDesign, Photoshop, and Publisher.

Tracked ROI of marketing materials through Google Analytics.

Designed, produced, edited and proofread publications including calendars, magazines, newsletters and brochures.

Used HTML and CSS3 to maintain and code website content in Business Catalyst, WordPress and Expression Web.

Designed email marketing materials and maintained database utilizing ConstantContact.

Ensured proper graphic standards were utilized in print, website and electronic communications.

Office Manager

Managed day-to-day operation of the office for the Research and Information Services and Information Literacy Outreach Departments.

Maintained weekly, monthly and annual statistics and created cross-departmental reports using Access, Obojobo, Excel, LibAnalytics.

Processed streaming video requests from faculty members and maintained Digital Campus LibGuide.

Created SQL statements, and custom reports in Access Database to improve monthly library instruction statistics reporting and expanded reports to include regional campuses.

Provided scheduling assistance for the research and information services desk.

Supervised student assistants.

Hired student assistants according to the library hiring policies and terminated student assistants leaving the library’s employment.

Trained student assistants on using Library of Congress call number system, office equipment and library policy and procedures.

Supervised student assistants with the day-to-day tasks of the department.

Assisted with Research Consultation Coordinating.

Follow up with patrons to complete satisfaction survey.

Reported statistics in monthly report.

Wrote and distributed departmental minutes.

Coordinated and managed office volunteer staff overseeing accounts payable, contributions, human resources and payroll.
